Interview with Straight From The Grave from California - September 2020



Who are Straight From The Grave and what instruments do you play?

Hello there! Straight From The Grave is; Fabian Grave: Upright Bass and Lead Vocals, Alex Sin: Lead guitar and Vocals, Andy Suicide: Drums and Back Vocals

 


What is the musical genre of the group? 

We consider our music hardcore "Horror Punkabilly". It's hard, fast, with a splash of Psychobilly but mostly influenced by early Punk!


Why Straight From The Grave as a name?

We're  all fans of the Macabre and the paranormal, plus it sounded better than our original name. Lol


Where are you from?

We're all from Anaheim California!


When did you start playing like Straight From The Grave?

We went by "Nocturnal Emissions" for a couple years but then changed our name to "Straight From The Grave" in 2009.


 

Do you have other parallel bands or do you play in other bands?

Andy Suicide is in a Rockabilly/Rock n Roll band "Los B Goods", Alex Sin was in "Die Grim Die" & "Motel Sinners" and Fabian Grave was a in "Nocturnal Emissions".


Influences? (Musical, literary, cinephiles, etc.)

We were collectively influenced by bands like: Os Catalépicos, Frenetic Trio, Sick Sick Sinners, Brujeria, Calavera, Asesino, Los Crudos, The Misfits, Bad Brains, and The Exploited



Do you have something recorded?

Yes, we released our album "Horror Punkabilly" in early 2019. You can find it on YouTube, Bandcamp, or purchase it directly from us!

 

Are you going to record something soon?

We have five new songs, we're trying to record those before the year ends!


 

What do your songs talk about?

The horrors and pleasures of real life. 


With whom and where have you played? 

Mostly local to our stomping grounds, we've played with such bands like; Agent Orange, Total Chaos, The Casualties, Batmobile, Calavera, Sick Sick Sinners, etc


Upcoming events of Straight From The Grave?

Absolutely, we're playing at The World Famous Dollhut in Anaheim both August 30th and September 5th

 


Are there good bands in your environment?

Definitely, Southern California is home to tons of fellow bands like; The Catacomb Rockers, Tres Muertos, The Autopsies, Lost Boys, Caroshi, Patient Zero, Dead At Midnite, Cursed Bastards, and so many more!
