Interview with the MindFucks - March 2023

Hi, who are MindFucks and what instruments do you play?

We got Jesse the Bastard on drums, Eric the Stranger on double bass, Cuf Coffin on vocals and I am Dido the Doctor on guitar.

What is the musical genre(s) of the group?

Our genre is Psychobilly. We are a bit more on the distorted spectrum of psychobilly though we try not to drift away too much from the rockabilly influences in this scene.

Why MindFucks as a name?

Our drummer Jesse suggested the name MindFucks. It was quite a fitting name with all the mindfuck memes going around on the internet which are often somewhat horror related. It gave a few problems with finding some proper emailadresses because of the word 'fuck' in it, but social media platforms were okay with it, so we kept this name. Where are you from?

We are from the Netherlands, two of us are from the Rotterdam area, two from the Amsterdam area.  When did you start playing like MindFucks?

MindFucks started early 2019 by Jesse and me, after some searching we found our first double bass player and a singer. Both are quite hard to find within a rather small Dutch scene and our first singer came originally from Oi bands.
After our bass player was replaced by Eric, during the Corona lockdowns our singer left and we asked Cuf. We've been with these four since 2021 and make quite a good team.

Do you have other paralel bands or do you play in other bands?

Right now for most of us MindFucks is our only project, except for Cuf who also plays electric bass in The Rabid Ones.

Influences? (Musicals, literary, cinephiles, experiences, etc).

Influences come from many different areas. Obviously a lot of Psychobilly bands. I started playing guitar while playing along with the Meteors, I think that still has an influence on my song writing. I also listened a lot to Demented are Go, Scum Rats, Asmodeus, Godless Wicked Creeps, Klingonz etc in the nineties when i was still a young lad. I also get some  inspiration from for other genre though, like Southern Gothic, and I like to throw in some silly jazz chords now and then.

Do you have something recorded? Are you going to record something soon?

During the first Corona lockdowns we all recorded our parts at home, which I mixed and edited to a 7 track album "You Will Shit Bricks (the demos)" which sold quite a few copies through Bandcamp and on CD'S. Later, with our new singer, we released a 5 track live album. We are currently saving up to get some proper studio time and to see if we can release a full album. We got plenty of songs for that so far.

What do your songs talk about?

Our songs go from murder to cannibalism, harvesting organs and plenty of sex. We have a song about being a stalker, about feeding a fat girlfriend to become fatter, about friends with benefits, about the death penalty. Our basic goal is: is it sick enough?

Upcoming events of MindFucks?

Our first upcoming gig is close to Rotterdam, in Vlaardingen together with the Hammeroidz, also from the Netherlands.

Are there good bands to interviewed in your environment?

The Hammeroidz are an amazingly fun and great band to interview. We played with them before and hope to share the stage more often. Also Renegade Bandits is a great band from around my area, not really psychobilly but they are doing great.

Thank you very much for trusting in Sesión de Plasma webzine.

You're welcome.
